Introduction to WISE Wisconsin Information System for Education

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction manages WISE, or the Wisconsin Information System for Education. WISE is a collection of projects, all relating to educational data. Wisconsin's school districts send certain data about how our students are doing to the DPI. And the primary place where the DPI reports this is WISEdash. Families, educators, and other people in the community can use WISEdash to explore this information. They can compare information across districts or subgroups, or over time, and downloadable files are available, too. There are actually two WISEdash portals. The public portal includes no specific student information,.

Only summary data by school, district, state, or subgroup. The other portal, which does include student data, is only accessible by school district staff who are officially designated by their district administrators. It's designed to help schools plan their improvement efforts. Once schools know their data, how do they learn from it That's where WISExplore comes in. It's not a tool so much as an activity a common data inquiry process built right into WISEdash. The CESA statewide network, in partnership with the DPI, has developed and is teaching the WISExplore inquiry process to school districts.

The WISExplore team guides educators through asking helpful questions about their data, discovering answers, hypothesizing the root causes of these issues, and finally taking action in schools and classrooms to address them. Because this data inquiry process has been embedded into WISEdash, it's easy for a school team to manage, coordinate, save, and retrieve their work. Behind the scenes in WISEdash, the DPI is making it easier for school districts to submit the information that's required by state and federal law. The school districts of Wisconsin use dozens of different software systems to manage their data.

WISEdata uses an application programming interface, or API, to set up a system that any student information system vendor can use to automatically connect and transmit information to the DPI, all while adhering to stringent security standards. WISEdata is expected to save thousands of hours of school district staff time every year by eliminating manual tasks they perform today. Within the WISEdata universe are some other applications. WISEsecure gives users privacy protection and single signon capabilities. WISEstaff is a system for collecting some required staff information. And WISEid assigns unique identifiers.

To our school staff and students to avoid using social security numbers. WISELearn is all about information that's directly relevant to what teachers do in the classroom. Teachers want to spend more time focused on their students, not wasting time hunting through pages and pages of links or searching for reliable educational information. The idea behind WISELearn is a onestop shop for highquality tools, content, and professional development. A centralized Wisconsinspecific portal where educators can engage with their colleagues around the state, where they can find classroomproven ideas and resources, and share their own.

A Solar Site Assessment for the Green Leaf Inn

Fritz Hi I'm Fritz with Greenbuild TV. Were here today at the Green Leaf Inn site in order to a solar site assessment. I got Stephen and Ryan here with Convergence Energy in order to do a solar site assessment using a pathfinder vice. Ryan, why don't you to tell me how does this work Ryan The Solar Pathfinder has a clear plastic dome on top that reflects the view of. the trees that would be possibly shading the site. We've got a chart underneath it showing our latitude in what the sun.

Will be doing at any given time in the year. So were standing out here at this site. This is exactly where we would plan on putting the solar array. And we can see this is a good site for ground mount, because we don't have any shade. for a greater part of the day. So basically from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. throughout the entire year. We can't see any trees on the reflection on the dome. So that tells us that we have a clear view of the Sun. All the year.

One other tool we have now for solar assessments. is a an app for your iPhone or Blackberry made by Solmetric. And it basically uses the camera on our phone. to scan the skyline and create a graph to show what our shading is. It's it's very simple, we lineup point East. the button. There's a cross here and trace the trees along the horizon. the stop. and it will compute the graph for us. And give us a whole lot more data than we can get just visually off of the solar pathfinder.

Fritz How many photos you did you take for that app Ryan It's actually continual tutorial. Fritz Okay you just to put it said in the tutorial and then you just go start from the east. and then just go on scan all the way around and then you're done. Ryan Yep you know give us a a nice graph. Sure we put our input in with our latitude and longitude. Site location. And we can email a report right to our computer. Stephen The other thing that we need this for many applications is for.

State incentives. That they want to see that the production it's going to come off a ray. Has that visibility of the Sun. For a period of time, generally 9 to 3. where it's uninhibited. So many times the photographs and the data from the. assessment today will be attached to the incentive applications. And applicable towards receiving the incentives. Fritz We're actually on the edge of the onsite wastewater treatment facility. What kind of foundation can we do We can't really put anything into the. mount system itself. Stephen Well there's a couple different ways you can go.

There is balanced with concrete systems where the. array can be put right on top of the concrete anchor. And it's balanced by the weight from wind. There's also a a screwtype device that can go in. which might be uplift applicable to this this type of ground soil as well. Fritz Well good well in the next couple days we're going to be actually. having about 40 trees, 1618 foot high trees, right around this perimeter of the fence. So once that's done, will be able to come back take a look and make sure.

Renewable Thermal Energy Technician MS RTET CC

natural sound background conversation Benjamin Instructor We've got a very rigorous program where we're really training people how to install solar water heating systems or geothermal systems. We give them a lot of handson opportunities to play with the equipment, to put it up.. and get the practice installing it now. Sam Student I love this program. I used to be at a fouryear I didn't like that it was not handson at all, and I'm a. handson learner.

Getting into this program definitely helped. All these instructors have worked in the field, they know what they're talking about, and they definitely pass that knowledge on. background conversation Benjamin Despite the fact that we've got a fantastic training facility, the best parts are when we leave campus. We like to put in a lot of systems in the community and at various people's houses, so we really get out into the field and install real, functioning systems, make them work, and make them produce energy. natural sound.
