Solar energy has just start here in Kentucky but us installing on the system's. We started this company in 2009 Some of the common questions we get. Is solar affordable, does it work in our area, Do we have enough son. and answer to all those questions is Yes We use Sun Power Panels from rooftops to ground mount. Percy and pay back on the system is lowest. Four years is a very short term investment for a product this warranty for 25 years. You own your house why do you rancher your power.

We are Team Kentuckiana and this is. the Phoenix House! The principal idea behind the Phoenix House was developed after an F5 tornado struck Henryville, IN just a few miles north of Louisville, KY. The Phoenix House is an exploration for a permanent solution to disaster relief housing. The phoenix is a symbol of hope and rebirth for communities that are left devastated by natural disasters. The Phoenix House functions as a prefabricated system that can be rapidly assembled in tornadoprone areas, like Kentucky and Indiana. Modular construction and offtheshelf products are key to its swift construction. It is rapidly.
Assembled using two modules a main living core, and a secondary bedroom unit. With two bedrooms and a sofa bed, the home comfortably sleeps six people, or 2 families in the aftermath of a tornado. In case of more threatening weather, the bathroom is designed as the safest room in the house, with a steel door, small laminated glass window, and added structural elements. The Phoenix House is constructed using durable, low maintenance, and reclaimed materials. The house is made of structural insulated panels SIPs as the wall and roof systems,.
And was implemented for their increased efficiency, insulation value, and improved structural integrity. The exterior is composed of a fiber cementboard panel rainscreen, a reclaimed wood lap siding, and a corrugated metal roof. The vaulted ceiling and open floor plan help maximize space within a small building footprint. Several windows are incorporated into the main living space, allowing for both natural light and passive ventilation through the house. The articulated butterfly roof is supported by fabricated wood trusses, and has an optimum slope for solar and rainwater collection. The wood trusses are able to collapse and hinge the roof flat for transportation and.
Adjustments. The Phoenix House is a prototype that inspires a conscious lifestyle to save money, energy and resources. It functions as a selfsustaining house capable of producing all of its energy from a 7.8kilowatt array of photovoltaic panels, and recycling much of its own water. A significant amount of energy is saved with SIP construction, LED lights, and efficient, ENERGY STAR appliances. The GeoSpring hybrid water heater is a system which uses a heat pump or induction coils to heat water. The hot water heater is integrated with the HVAC unit through a ducted system.
Increasing the overall efficiency by sharing energy between the two systems through hot and cold air recovery. The Phoenix House is a prototype constructed for disaster relief. It is designed to be more durable, energyefficient, and structurally sound than the average stickbuilt home. It supports green living by rebuilding more efficiently and becoming less reliant on nonrenewable energy sources. Not only does this house look to help people rebuild more resilient communities after a natural disaster, but it also looks to present viable options for sustainable living as an environmentally friendly home.
Berea, KY Solar Podcast
This tutorial has been provided by ICMA, the International City County Management Association. And is funded through the US Department of Energy's Solar Outreach Partnership. For more information visit solaroutreach The Berea Solar Farm idea really came about as a community idea. It was modeled after a cooperative in Colorado, this is 2009. The utility had just been purchased in 2004, I think, from the college There was a lot of startup, just a lot to learn. A group of citizens would be appointed to form an advisory council for the local utility.
When the city acquired the utility, bought it from Berea College, they went ahead and adopted all the existing tariffs that were in place and suddenly became the first municipal utility to have net metering in the state. We were successful getting $125,000 through the Department of Local Government. That was the funding mechanism for the first phase first two phases, actually, of the solar. We meter monthly and refund to those individual customers monthly all the power that's generated from that panel at the residential rate. The initial interest was pretty amazing we actually sold out all of the leases.
In 4 or 5 days. There was practically a line going out the door. There was so much interest in fact that it spurred us to go ahead with phase two, which was to double the original footprint. We were confident that we would quickly get those leased and recoup the capital investment, which we did. And then we decided as a community to fund phase three and four solely with city funds I think that initial interest was not driven solely on getting a financial return but was this opportunity to have some say in where Berea's electricity is coming from.
The community gets the benefit of, one, helping to reduce the peak loads. The same time as panels are pumping out the most is a time those hot summer afternoons when you're paying for that peak power so we can save Berea Municipal Utilities money for that. Also, every kilowatt hour that we don't use is one less we buy from Kentucky Utilities and that's money that leaves the community that can stay here and circle around, so there's an economic value. There is a real benefit to being a small, or even a large municipal utility, in that,.

Kentucky lawmakers reflect on 2015 General Assembly
AND DEALING IN FRANKFORT RIGHT NOW AND THEY COULD BE THERE UNTIL MIDNIGHT. TODAY IS THE LAST REGULAR DAY OF THE 2015 GENERAL ASSEMBLY. WLKY'S MARK VANDERHOFF WAS IN FRANKFORT AND SPOKE TO SOME LOUISVILLEAREA LEGISLATORS ABOUT HOW THEY THINK THE SESSION WENT. THAT DEPENDS ON WH00000 O YOU ASK AND WHICH ISSUE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. THERE ARE STILL SOME MAJOR ISSUES THAT HAVEN'T BEEN TACKLED. Jimmy Higdon We'll have probably close to a thousand bills filed in this session, and when it's all said and done probably somewhere between 50 and a.
Hundred will actually pass. REPUBLICAN SENATOR JIMMY HIGDON OF LEBANON SAYS KENTUCKY'S 2015 GENERAL ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN PRODUCTIVE. EVEN IF ONLY A SMALL FRACTION OF BILLS PASS. SO FAR, BOTH CHAMBERS HAVE APPROVED BILLS TO CREATE MORE OVERSIGHT OF PUBLIC PENSIONS. PROHIBIT LARGE BREWERIES FROM OWNING BEER DISTRIBUTORS. AND ALLOW TELEPHONE COMPANIES TO GET RID OF SOME LANDLINE SERVICE. DEMOCRATIC REPRESENTATIVE REGINALD MEEKS OF LOUISVILLE SAYS THERE IS TOO MUCH UNFINISHED BUSINESS. Reginald Meeks Unfortunately, it may well be that when all is said and done, more will be said than done.
NOT YET PASSED ARE BILLS TO COMBAT HEROIN. EXTEND PROTECTIVE ORDERS TO DATING RELATIONSHIPS. AND FULLY FUND THE TEACHERS' PENSION SYSTEM. REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVE JERRY MILLER OF LOUISVILLE TRIED TO PUSH FOR SOME CHANGES TO THE LOCAL SALES TAX OPTION BILL. Jerry Miller I think had they made some modifications in the House, it might have had a better fate in the Senate. THAT BILL PASSED THE HOUSE, BUT DIED IN THE SENATE. SENATOR GERALD NEAL OF LOUISVILLE, THE DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS CHAIRMAN, SAYS HE WISHES THE SENATE WOULD HAVE GIVEN THE BILL A VOTE.
Gerald Neal What has to be done here is you have to put your nose to the grindstone and engage it for what it is and try to come to a good outcome. THERE'S ALWAYS NEXT YEAR, NEAL SAYS. Jimmy Higdon They always kind of compare it to making sausages. It's not a pretty process. The end result is always good, but the process, it's not for the fainthearted. THERE IS STILL TIME FOR SOME BILLS THAT DON'T GET VOTES TONIGHT. THE LEGISLATURE WILL BREAK FOR ONE AND A HALF.

MUSIC PLAYING For as long you have a clear vision of what you want to achieve then no problem can be that tough. MUSIC PLAYING There is a need to develop a relevant science and math curriculum to inspire our young people to pursue science technology, engineering and mathematics career. The Philippines needs to increase its science and technology human resources so that, it can develop sustainable economic growth. I think my greatest challenge is to help people in the organization manage the change. When you introduce a new concept a new idea or a new technology.
There will always be reactions. So, it needs a lot of skills for a leader to put people onboard your vision. So that, they could be active players in finding solutions to these challenges. I was then a science research teacher and I was one of the 4,000 nominees from all over the world who competed at the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair Teaching Competion And eventually, I was chosen as one of the 5 grand finalist. We competed with the U.S. we showed our innovations for teaching, answered interviews and finally I emerged as the Grand Winner.
I believe that being a woman helps me to make my message to promote education more effective, because being a woman They look at me also as a mother And in our country, we perceived mothers to be more nurturing, compassionate and loving since more educators in the Philippines are women they can easily empathize with me and my message. To all aspiring leaders out there continue to pursue your passion Develop your skills and potential to the fullest, and please use this talents, skills, and opportunities to help build our nation.
