SolarCity Unveils Worlds Most Efficient Rooftop Solar Panel with more than 22 Module Efficiency.
The Sun provides endless energy, but the average solar cell panel can convert only 14 to 20 of the energy it collects into usable electricity. Now, American energy company SolarCity has built the world's most efficient rooftop solar panel, with a module efficiency exceeding 22 percent. The new SolarCity panel generates more power per square foot and harvests more energy over a year than any other rooftop panel in production, and will be the highest volume solar panel manufactured in the Western Hemisphere. SolarCity will begin producing the first modules in small quantities this month at its 100.
MW pilot facility, but the majority of the new solar panels will ultimately be produced at SolarCity's 1 GW facility in Buffalo, New York. SolarCity expects to be producing between 9,000 10,000 solar panels each day with similar efficiency when the Buffalo facility reaches full capacity. SolarCity's panel was measured with 22.04 percent modulelevel efficiency by Renewable Energy Test Center, a thirdparty certification testing provider for photovoltaic and renewable energy products. SolarCity's new panel is created via a proprietary process that significantly reduces the manufacturing cost relative to other highefficiency technologies, and it.

This is the GRoW Home, a project which proposes a new way of living with energy. Welcome to Buffalo, home of America's first citywide park and parkway system, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in 1869. Buffalo is connected to its verdant past and is now home to the country's largest garden walk. Citizens have revived neglected neighborhoods through gardening. The GRoW Home suggests that the owners engage with the architecture and the environment by managing the house as a captain would a sailboatriding the waves of solar, wind, and thermal forces.
Energy consumption is reduced by introducing passive strategies to active control systems. The GRoW Home residents interact with the house and its context as the days and seasons change. This means smarter use of resources in the evolution of what locals call the New Buffalo. The GRoWlariupart Greenhouse, part Solariumis a passively conditioned space acting as a thermal buffer between the nonconditioned exterior and the actively conditioned interior. The GRoWlarium serves as an incubation greenhouse during the winter and a 50 expansion of living space during the warmer months. Essentials such as food production, energy generation, and rainwater collection are all.
Achieved through the GRoW Home. Sunlight pours in, providing balanced natural light to foster a healthy living space. These are super windows triplepaned, argon gasfilled, and lowecoated. The 10inch, structurally insulated wall and roof panels provide twice the insulation required by code. The GRoW Home uses cuttingedge technology a fourzone, forced air mechanical system with an energyrecovery ventilator, LED lighting, and the most efficient appliances. The home produces nearly twice the energy it consumes with 6.72 kW of gridtied solar panels and solar water heating. A monitoring system lets owners track energy usage and output to the grid.
The entertainment wall highlights the flexibility of the home. As a partition, it suggests a boundary between the bedroom and the living area. The unit can divide these spaces while also providing storage and holding entertainment systems. The steel canopy recalls the iconic roofs of commercial greenhouses and gives prominence to the solar array, while providing shade to the house and the deck below. Using a highperformance folding door system, a wall of glass can be tucked away, dissolving the line between inside and outside, and connecting the residents to the outdoors.

Team NY Alfred Team Interview Solar Decathlon 2015
GtgtFemale 1 We are the Alfred State College of Technology and Alfred University. We wanted to incorporate a lot of lighting, openness. We have one of the top lots so there's a big, open view which was one of our main focuses, and we kind of wanted to have a gathering space. So we have a large porch, a lot of fenestration, vegetation. That was one of our main things is incorporating light and kind of that open area feel so it's not so dense and enclosed but also incorporate the panels, shading, and all the necessities.
Gtgt Female 2 We wanted to have especially the dining, living, and kitchen things connected. gtgt Female 1 So we have exposed duct work and trusses and structural members. So we kind of wanted to give it that feel, and it's not so much material, so it does have that more of open. gtgt Female 2 And, you know, people also learn, Like, when they come in the house they're going to see those mechanical systems and the structural things. Just understand how the house was built. gtgt Female 1 Residence of like a small family of four.
