Both options are similar to renting. With a solar lease, you pay a monthly fee for the system and get to use all the electricity the solar panels produce For Free. With a PPA you agree to purchase the electricity the system generates at prices that are lower than what you would pay your utility.

Why Should We Launch Solar Panels Into Space

Back in the 1960s, American aerospace engineer Peter Glaser proposed launching solar panels into space, and beaming the power they collect back to the surface for our use. Since the late 60s the idea has been in a holding pattern mainly because of the expense and worries about maintenance and equipment, but thanks.
To recent developments in solar panel tech the Japanese space firm JAXA says they can finally try it. The plan is ambitious at minimum and cost hasn't yet been calculated, BUT JAXA is determined, and they're not the only ones. The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory is also interested in spacebased solar. The reason everyone's looking up, is because that's where the sun sits! If we can put a satellite in orbit to collect the sun's rays BEFORE the atmosphere filters them out, and without the worry of a cloudy day, that would be rad. The JAXA Space Based Power System.
Or SBPS will orbit 22,400 miles up, and if done to their specs, would completely replace a nuclear power plant by producing 1 gigawatt of electricity enough to power halfamillion homes. What Is a Renewable Energy Certificate
Have you ever wondered, when you turn on your lights, where that electricity is coming from In the United States, most electricity comes from coal, natural gas, and nuclear and some renewable sources, like hydropower, wind, and solar. No matter where electricity is generated, it is mixed together on the shared electricity grid. When you turn on your lights or TV, you pull some of that electricity out. Once electricity is put on the grid, there is no way to know where it came from or how it was generated, all electricity is the same. If you want to green your power, though, you.
Can do that with renewable energy certificates. These certificates are created each time one megawatthour of renewable energy is generated and put on the grid, about what an average home uses in a month. When an individual or business buys a certificate, they are buying renewable energy, and can claim all the environmental benefits of that megawatthour. John Holdren While no single wildfire can be said to have been caused by climate change, climate change has been making the fire season in the United States longer, and, on average, more intense. I'm John Holdren, President Obama's Science Adviser, here to talk about climate change and wildfires, a topic that's on the mind of many who are grappling with tragic losses from the recent spate of uncontrolled fires in the northwestern United States and Canada. The influence of climate change on the wildfire regime comes not just from the higher summer.
Temperatures and reduced summer soil moisture that go with global warming. Climate change is also bringing us more dead trees kindling, in effect, killed by a combination of heat stress, water stress, and attacks by pests and pathogens that multiply faster in a warmer world. The National Climate Assessment, released in May, tells us consistent with earlier studies that longer, hotter, drier summers are projected to continue to increase the frequency and the intensity of large wildfires in the United States. In the western United States, the average.
Annual area burned by large wildfires has increased severalfold in recent decades. The evidence is strong that climate change is responsible at least in part for this increase. And the west is not the only U.S. region affected by wildfire. Today, the southeastern United States leads the nation in number of wildfires, averaging 45,000 fires per year, and this number continues to increase. And nationwide, the eight worst years on record in terms of area burned have all occurred since the year 2000. Wildfires, of course, are dangerous to human life.
And health, costly in terms of property loss, and generally harmful to ecosystems. They destroy valued timber and wildlife, as well as homes and other built infrastructure. They promote soil erosion.
