Music playing Narrator Over 50 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions you produce in your home are generated by heating, air conditioning and hot water. In other words keeping your home warm in winter, cool in summer with nice hot water on tap is emitting 2.5 to 5 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year. It also contributes a hefty amount to your electricity bill, between 50 to 60 percent. CSIRO has invented a new solar air conditioning system for Australian homes. This technology solution will reduce Australia's emissions, reduce your energy.
Bills and reduce our demand for electricity and gas. If every home in Australia installed our solar cooling technology it would be the equivalent of saving 15 mega tonnes of CO2 or taking 3.5 million cars off the road. CSIRO's solar air conditioning is an innovative three in one technology that provides hot water, cooling and heating. It uses only a fraction of the electricity of current systems and halves greenhouse gas emissions. The process begins with a typical solar hot water system. Water is heated by solar panels and stored in the hot water tank.
This solar hot water can then be used throughout the home, reducing the need for gas or electricity. A portion of the hot water is diverted into CSIRO's new solar air conditioning unit, which is divided into two compartments. The hot water enters a heat exchanger in the first compartment of the unit. Similar to a car radiator the heat exchanger uses the hot water to heat outside air that has been drawn into the first compartment through the vent. At the same time outside air is also being drawn into the second compartment into a desiccant wheel.
The desiccant wheel is the most critical part of the system. It is used to dry out the air before it goes into the house. Slowly turning the desiccant material in the wheel continuously absorbs moisture in the second compartment and then the absorbent material dries out in the first compartment. The desiccant material is dried out using the hot dry air generated by the heat exchanger. This air is then exhausted outside the home. The dry air from the desiccant wheel flows through an indirect evaporative cooler which creates a stream of cool dry air.
Saving with a Solar Hot Water System
Solar energy powers a lot of things in our lives. So what makes Solar Hot Water so hot Well, for starters, it's very efficient. By capturing the energy from the sun A solar hot water system can save you as much as 2800 kwh per year. That's enough to do 509 loads of laundry. And energy isn't the only thing you save. A solar hot water system helps you do your part to save the planet, too. Solar hot water can really lessen the load on your existing electric hot water system. It can easily provide up to 70 of the hot.
Water you use in your home or business. And as long as the sun is out, whether you see it or not, it will keep working. Even on cloudy days. And during those New York State winters, too. Solar Hot Water savings are real. They provide continuous costcutting for years to come. In fact, a Solar Hot Water system can cut the electric portion of your energy bill by up to 20. Heating your hot water with a solar hot water system is a simple process with great results. A typical electric hot water system requires a constant flow of energy and money to provide.
You with hot water. But a solar hot water system SAVES energy and money year after year. A supplement to your existing hot water tank, a solar hot water system carries water to solar collectors mounted on your roof. There, solar collectors capture and transfer the sun's heat to your watermuch like a garden hose that warms water while it sits in the sun. Once the water is hot enough, a pipe carries it back to your solar hot water tank, where it's ready to be used. In your home..or business. So affordable.

Burning Stuff With 2000F Solar Power!!
In a previous project I found a free tv and turned it into a giant solar scorcher. This shoots out a deadly beam of sunlight, that's hot enough to abuse food, melt metal and burn things you probably shouldn't. Today seemed like a good day to play with my Solar Scorcher. I positioned my frame and found the focal point, then added some concrete tiles as a base for my projects. Ok, I've got power, and I'll test it out with this piece of wood and when the light makes contact.
I've got instant fire. The sunlight at this spot is around 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, enough to melt this spot of concrete into a glowing orange liquid. I'm curious to see what I can do with all this heat so I've filled a glass bottle with water and I'll punch a hole in the cap. It's incredible to see that the instant I focus my lens on the bottle, it starts smoking. Just a few moments later this water is so hot it's boiling, and I'm a little nervous the bottle might blow. Yep, there it goes. The glass pieces are melting and that's cool,.
But now I want to try this on some food. I'll get some hot dogs, and when they hit the beam they really do get hot. This might be a little well done for my taste, and I'm still hungry so let's try an egg. The egg is actually working very well. It's so reflective it doesn't burn as fast, and even my wife is interested. A little salt and pepper and it's tempting to try a bite. Ok, so I wasn't actually expecting to eat this, but it looks safe enough, and.
Even my kids are anxious to try. Surprisingly, it's pretty good. Alright, let's see what else this will do. I'll try burning a penny, and, wow, it melted. How about a stack of pennies Yep, they're nothing but liquid metal now, and I'm thinking that slag in the mixture must be what's left of the copper coating. It's only taking about 4 seconds to melt these, and melting metal is really great, but now I want to see something burst. I wonder what would happen to this egg It's spewing some kind of debris and smoking like crazy. I hear.
Some little pops and it's even forming some interesting growths. huh, Look at that. But no explosion. How about if I put a pop top on this bottle of water and let the pressure build up Yeah, that's what I'm looking for. Let's do that again. The lid is back on, and pressure is building. Awesome! Alright, the sun is setting and I've readjusted my Aframe. I'm just wondering if this would ignite gasoline. It does. Hopefully it goes without saying that this is very dangerous and you shouldn't try this at home. Well, I'm convinced there's.
An insane amount of power behind these lenses. If you'd like to see where I got this one, take a look at my tutorial on how I hacked it out of an old TV. This one boiled water in less than a minute, welded a nickel to concrete, and instantly torched any piece of wood in it's way. Well that was fun, but I'm still hungry so I'll put everything away and go get some real home cooking. That's it for now. If you liked this project, perhaps you'll like some of my others. Garden Gurus How Solar Hot Water Systems Work
We all love using hot water but the way things going we will really have to be smart about how we use it Hot water is the biggest user the energy in the house And energy continues to be one of the biggest costs in the household budget. But don't worry I can show you how you can save energy and money at the same time Solar hot water uses the sun's energy to heat the water So by simply converting your gas or old electric hot water system to solar, you could save as much as 50 to 90 percent.
Of your hot water energy use. Solahart is Australia's leading solar manufacturer For sixty years they've manufactured and supplied over one million solar hot water systems in Australia and overseas. Each unit is designed to maximize the draw on the sun's energy heating the water which is circulated through to the storage tank When it comes to choosing the solar hot water system that's right for you there are two main options. The first one is this roof mounted tank and collectors unit which is often referred to as a thermosiphon system.
The second option is a split system where the tank is located in a convenient position on the ground and is connected to collectors positioned on the roof The basic solar hot water system cost around five thousand dollars to purchase and then to install There is still a government incentives scheme up and running around a thousand dollars off the price of a solar water heater and this is usually given as a point of sale discount to reduce the upfront costs Contrary to popular belief often the best time to replace your gas or electric water heater is when it breaks down.
That way you're investing the cost of a replacement conventional water heater into a water heater that pays for itself over time and Solahart has a emergency replacement units which insure you still have hot water in an emergency situation while you wait for your solar water heater to be installed Its estimated that by changing to a solar hot water system you can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to three tonnes per annum and that's the equivalent of taking a four cylinder car off the road Can you imagine if we all did that.
