Greenpeace Canada Installs Solar Panels on Oil Derrick
We're in the midst of a growing climate crisis. We need to transition away from highly polluting sources of carbon, like the tar sands and towards renewables. Luckily, here in Alberta we have the most solar and wind potential in the entire country. Solar technology is available here and now, and it's being utilized across the world. Alberta is only utilizing 1 of its solar potential. When an oil spill happens, it can ruin communities. It can damage our environment. When a solar spill happens, they just call it a nice day.
Solar Panels Why Paul Chose Canadian ELPS Solar Panels!
Wow, what a view of Niagara Falls! I have several boarders in the house and they obviously use a fair bit of power and it's just generally high! As power goes up or costs go up, I was expecting my power bills to increase quite substantially. My power bills were approximately $2,000 $2,500 per quarter prior to my decision to actually look at solar. Ahhh... firstly I went looking around at different solar companies. I did have a small system put in, 1.5kw system to get a feel for solar. That really didn't even touch my.
Power bill. I ended up looking around and I ran into Michael, Michael Russo. Michael was really good about... he said down with me and actually worked out what power I was using, what power I would need, what sort of panels I would need to actually eliminate that. So it wasn't a matter of looking at cost, it was a matter of looking at reduction of that whole power bill. So it was... coming at it from a different angle that most people do.
They come and say it's going to cost you 'X' to put these in or it's going to cost you 'Y'. Michael looked at it from a different perspective and said, 'Well you're using 60kws, let's put in enough panels to get rid of that 60kws'. I did a lot of website searching and a lot of looking at different types of panels. The Canadian ELPS panels turned out to be one of the better panels that are around. And I was quite happy with Michael and all his suggestions and all the work that he did for me.
Well my understanding is that they... they're efficiency, the amount of power they actually output is greater than a normal panel... than most panels. I knew fully what they were doing today. I was really glad I was sitting here watching when they unloaded the 50 panels and I was thinking... 'You Beauty!'. There's a lot of horror stories as I said out there, that I'm hearing. But I've got confidence in Michael and his team, he seems to have a very good customer service base,.
Has all the information that I needed and I can support that by my own due diligence, in checking up on the internet and all that sort of stuff. Well, the quality of panels... I've checked them out. They've got triple insurance on them so they're covered for any breakage or anything like that, not only by Canadian ELPS but by three different insurance companies. So with this system now, I would expect that I would make quite considerable savings as time goes by and it doesn't really matter how much electricity goes up or down because.
Comparing Kyocera KD140 Solar Panels
Hi, I'm Amy from the altE Store. The Kyocera KD140 solar panel is very popular for DIY off grid solar. It is available in two different versions, the SX and the GX. So what's the difference and when should I use one over the other The solar cells and frame are identical between the two. The only difference is how you connect them to your solar system. The KD140GX comes with a sealed junction box on the back with about 3 feet of PV wire coming out of the back with solar connectors known as SMK already.
On them for plus and minus. This makes it very easy to wire them in series with other panels, and then you just take an extension cable, cut it in two, and use the resulting 2 cables to wire to your combiner box or pass thru box to continue on to inside in conduit. If you are just wiring 2 in parallel, you can optionally use a coupler to connect the pluses together and the minus together. The GX is also nice for if you have a portable system, such as on a boat or RV, and need.
To remove the connection. With the key, you can just disconnect and store the panels. The KD140SX comes with a junction box, or Jbox, without cables. This allows you to open the back and use your own wire to wire up your system. This can be an advantage when you are installing the solar panel on a boat and want to use marine grade tinned wire. It is also great for a small solar system with only one or two solar panels, you can just wire them together inside the junction box.
By getting your own PV wire and lugs, you can wire them together without needing to have the specialized solar connector cables. Note that the SX comes with 2 water tight strain reliefs tucked inside the jbox to provide a watertight seal around the wire. If you found this tutorial helpful, please like and share it. SOLAR IN THE TAR SANDS Indigenous community launches solar powered health centre
The Lubicon Cree have been here since time immemorial. Indigenous people have a very intimate connection with our homelands here, in northern Alberta. And what we've seen instead is Industry coming in and taking over our lands and really exploiting them. It's had a detrimental impact. We see companies digging down into the earth, trying to extract the very last drops of oil. But instead, we can start looking up. We're bathing in sunlight all around us and we're not utilizing that energy. And so that's why our community has decided to install solar.
We've got a state of the art system going in here. I think it's really important that we take this project next level. Essentially 20.8 kilowatt capacity is what this will end up becoming. Which will connect in through the health center but which will feed the whole community in terms of energy. That's 80 panels, are going to go on top of these polls. We're very deliberate about this because we want it to be something that's still very much a central site in this community, that people will see.
It will welcome visitors and people will be reminded of it every day. We wanted to retain the land use potential. It's something that's going to be in the community, behind us, for at least 50 years. It's pretty amazing to see this project go up. A lot of the community members, the young people are working and getting hands on training right now. It's really amazing to see how, proud people are of it, and how it's a community project because all of this has been through the blood sweat and tears of the community.
This project matters to us because it represents who we are and where we are going in the future. When you see the work I can say that I did that, I took part and I did it right. So there will be a lot of people seeing it every day, and I can tell people I worked on this. Heh. I know that in a lot of the ceremonies and the songs, the sun is praised. Even the project name, Pitapan, means the coming of the dawn , and it's the coming of a new era.
